The IEA: Where We've Been, Where We're Going

September 14, 2024

Presenter Rhonda Kronyk led a journey through the history of the IEA, beginning with Greg Younging's work with Theytus Books, the Canadian publishing industry, and the United Nations. Attendees learned about Joanne Gerber and her pivotal role in bringing Indigenous writers together for the first Aboriginal Editors Circles, which later led to the founding of the IEA. The session traced how the organization evolved from a small group of passionate individuals into an expansive community of members. Rhonda also shared the projects then underway and offered a preview of what was ahead as the IEA continued to grow its membership and programming.

Afterward, Indigenous creatives were invited to a Kitchen Table Talk facilitated by IEA member Jónina Kirton. The session covered plans for an Indigenous Editors Circle in May 2025 and invited participants to help shape the curriculum.
